Thanks to Steve Clarkson’s leading of a project funded by the British Sub Aqua Club Jubilee, a number of club members have gained or are about to gain a nautical archaelogical qualification. The project objectives are to carry out an underwater survey of HMS Venerable, sunk in a storm off Roundham Head on 24 November 1804. As part of the project, Steve has committed to organising the training of a number of divers to the NAS (Nautical Archaeological Society) Part 1 level. The first course was held at the Brixham Yacht Club and on site on the Venerable during the weekend 30 July – 1 August. Another course has been planned for the 17, 20 and 21 November – see the events calendar or notice board at the clubhouse.

You can read about the first course in the trip reports section – HMS Venerable Project.
