Earlier in the year, a few members took part in a taster session with the Nautical Archaeology Society at Crosfields School pool.
I completed my NAS course many years ago in Brixham and Kingswear. Sean Clarke was enthused by the experience, and we went on to join a South West Maritime Archaeology Group exploration over a couple of days in Plymouth.
During this time, we undertook searching, measuring, and recording techniques, working from previous magnetometer targets, which led to some interesting finds. Sean and I didn’t have to search far for our first target, located just outside the protected wreck site of HMS Coronation. We discovered an old, large Admiralty-pattern anchor. The second site was a Sunderland flying boat wreck.
The following day involved searching around unconfirmed, older magnetometer targets off Salcombe.
