Autumn is upon us which means a return trip to the Farne Islands, diving with Sovereign Divers, for what is likely to be the last hurrah of the year for most of us.
Although the weather wasn’t too bad, there were winds and swells which restricted the sites available but with there always being somewhere to dive in the Farnes, we were able to dive a few colourful walls and dive some shallows to see if we could encounter some of the many grey seals.
Visibility was not too bad at around 5m and we saw plenty of crabs, lobsters , squatties and even an octopus, plus seals on nearly every dive. Sunday’s second dive in a shallow kelp bed gave my buddy and I what was one of the best dives for seal encounters I have had with around half a dozen youngsters zipping past us at one time.
After forty five minutes hanging on to a stem of kelp in the current we called it a day and headed off back for some R&R and supper in the Bamburgh Castle, good end to a great dive weekend.
