Isles of Scilly Island dive trip 22nd June 24 to 29th June 24.
As a first timer to diving the Isles of Scilly, I was really looking forward to this trip. It was a long time in planning.
After loading our dive gear into a container for transport to the Scilly, at 06.30, we went for a cafe breakfast before we boarded the Scillion ferry in Penzance for the 2hour 45 minute journey to St Mary’s. For the early part of the journey there were wonderful views of the Cornish coast line. But once we hit the open sea, past Land End, it became a rather lumpy trip.
Many a green face on board. On arrival at St Mary we had a short walk to our digs in Hugh Town. 2 nice, clean and comfortable holiday lets overlooking Porthcressa Beach.
On the Sunday morning we met up with Ed Gollop, from Skindeep, who would be our skipper for the week. The boat is a spacious, well equipped boat with onboard compressors , so no humping cylinders around – bonus. Our first dive of the week was the Plympton & Hathor. 2 wrecks one on top of the other. A good 8 meters plus viz made for a cracking dive and set theme for the rest of the week.
Diving the Scilly’s was a wonderful experience and every dive was full of life. Diving with Seals at Menawethan was a pure joy. Diving the Eagle wreck was a mission as we had a large swell down to 15 meters and no, I never found the wreck but some nice big Lobsters and Cray fish made up for it. One particularly nice dive was the Cable dive where I found a lovely little Tompot Blenny with a TopKnot Dab. Ed was a great skipper, plenty of teas and coffee and great diving locations.
I would definitely recommend diving the Isles of Scilly and am really looking forward to returning in the future.
